Learning as I go & Basecoat buff question

Is there any value in cutting/buffing the base coat or should I just flatten out with 1200-1500 grit and then cut my clear?

I am painting in quite cold conditions with old Cellulose paint. Its a little orange peely but nothing to bad , just a bit dull, but it is the base I guess.

If you’re going to clear it, just smooth it with 600 and clear it. You can denib and cut and polish your clear to make it a mirror. Good luck!

Crazzed thanks buddy, I suspected that was the thing to do. Im stuggling to dry the work so will leave a good week before I sand flat and spray the clear.
